Collaboratizing Your Favorite Editor

Easy to Use

CollabEd is a collaboration platform that can be plugged into (currently only Java-based) editors to enable non-locking, synchronous, real-time collaboration between different editors. It also provides session playback, a simple chat and a group-list window for awareness. CollabEd places all the control into the user's hands. All that's required to collaborate with others: a network address, your group and an optional password. jEdit - CollabEd
If you don't want to host your own collaborations, we provide a server and you don't have to sign up for the service.

Features

Editor Independence: You do not have to sacrifice your choice editor for collaboration. John (using Eclipse) can collaborate with Jane (using NetBeans), Jim (using jEdit) and Joe (using JTC Text Editor applet above) without skipping a beat.

VCR-Like Collaboration Playback: You are able to save your collaboration session for playback at a later time. This includes fast-forward, rewind, and seeking to a specific point. The replay file is not a video recording. CollabEd replay provides step by step playback of every single edit made by every single collaborator as it originally occurred.

Beyond Text Collaboration: CollabEd supports more than text editing. The CollabEd plugin can be adapted to any linearized editing. For example, CollabEd was plugged into the drawing program DrawSWF. Try writing or drawing together.
